Guess I can still talk about it even if Im not catchin any. Caught a 4-4 about 3 1/2 weeks ago but not much since. Took the grandkids over the week of fathers day weekend. They tore up the bluegill. Grandson landed his first catfish. It was around 18 inches, 1-2 lbs. You should have seen his grin, ear-to ear. More fun to teach them than it is to fish myself! I hooked on to something BIG one day, it gave me a fight before it broke my line, the kids thought that was real exciting. Hope they keep on fishin. We are going to try tues morning about daylight & see what we can find. sure like fishing shallow but looks like we'll have to try deep. Guess I chewed your ear off so I'll shut up and give somebody else a chance. Hang in there it'll cool off before you know it.

I agree CJ, when my twin sons were growing it was a lot more pleasure to help them than to catch.....anytime! I hope you'll catch a bunch today.

Enjoy each day!

I'm glad to see someone else is active on here, I seen where everyone had posted earlier in the year so I said a few words and no one reports back. I too have fun teaching my son to fish, kinda differently though he is 16 months. Smiler Purvis: The only night tourney I know of is the Tuesday Nighter's out of the dam. But if you would like to know more about it let me know. Maybe try that question on another board see if they know.

We, we went out early Tues. & only caught one little bitty bass. Shallow water is so warm they come out ready to eat! We just don't do well at fishin deep either. Guess we need to pratice more. If this rain holds up for a while it will be great tomorrow morning but there you go-work interferes with fishing again. Grandkids are back in MI-sure miss the little critters. Hope you all had better luck than we did.

Newbie,
don't worry, those hefty bass will be back in the shallows soon enough for the fall feast. For now you may want to concentrate on mayfly hatches to produce a few nice bass. Good luck finding them though, Smiler

Went out Sun morning and we each pulled out a nice largemouth. they were about 2 lbs each. Had another hefty one on but got careless and lost it. Had a few more close encounters but only boated one other little guy.Found them in the grass about 1-2 feet deep. water was 80-82 and stained a little. We sent them all back to grow some more. Only stayed out about 3 1/2 hours but it sure was nice out there. We try to go at least once a week, usually on weekends.

Sounds like you faired well on your trip. We caught two from the grass sunday but no keeps, only one bite all day after that which turned out to be a 2.74 lb. But not the day we were looking for. Good job!

Fished the Montgomery County Bass Club Night Tournament 8th and 9th (7pm to 7am). Caught fish all night and culled to a 5 fish limit that weighed 18'2". Came in second, first was 18'12".
Fish were in 5 to 8 ft.
When ya'll talk about catching fish in the grass, what type of grass are you refering to?

Guess it's not really grass like on a lawn. More like grassy weeds along the shore. We fish on the Big Sandy and there are grassy weeds in about all of the bays. We were fishing at the mouth of a bay where there was gravel and "grass".I have heard that once the water heats up the only place shallow to find the bass is in the grass on gravel or rock. Don't know if that is true but it paid off this time. We used a watermelon 6" lizard, Texas rigged on 12 lb line. When the water is muddy or dark we use a black lizard with a blue tail. Also like black worms. But Bass hate lizards year round even when they are not hungry. We are not pros by any stretch of the imagination but we love to fish and love to be out on the Big Sandy River.

How deep is the water in Big Sandy where the grass and gravel are located? If it is at least 3ft with a gradual drop, you may want to give it a shot after dark. Use a 3/8oz and 5/8oz black spinner bait (Terminator or Aggravator)and fish fast enough to clip the top of the grass. I used to live down the road on Donnelson Parkway until 2002. Moved to South Mississippi to be close to my wife's mother. I still come up to fish night tournaments twice a year. That is why I was looking for Friday night tournaments to fish as practice for the Saturday night ones. I will be back up for the Clarksville Bass Club Night Tournament on 5/6 August.
If you enjoy fishing milfoil grass put in at Grey's landing (it is across the river from Paris Landing or you can use Paris and motor over) and fish the island just to the north and the banks just north of lost creek. Early September with a white buzz bait around the milfoil edges on cloudy days is always fun!

I fished Monday, several spots from Paris Landing to the Ky line Shallow, deep and in between. Caught three one small and two that were decent keepers. Had a great time. Was glad to be there. Oh, I let them go to grow also.

Enjoy each day!
