That was a cool promotion. I feel it got more people involved in the board. Hopefully everyone will continue to visit and post the latest.

Fishman - thanks for the tool you have provided all of us who have nothing better to do than see what other folks are doing. It is great.

Hey Danfish. You never did reply about Bumpus Mills Marina. How far is it from Gatlin Point by water? I am thinking about coming down this weekend. I Love this board. Keep up the reports.

Crappiechaser sorry I didn't see your post. Don't know how that happened. From the marina it is half mile to the channel you will be near mile 78 go south to mile 80 and turn right into Bards creek. At that point you will be in the stumps and you have them for 2 miles all the way to Galtin Point.

Good luck

Danny

I've got one more prize to announce. Scotty was nice enough to offer to mount a picture for someone on a plaque. The winner of the plaque is HarrisX. You will need to get in touch with me for contact info. Just email me at fishman@parislanding.com .

I would also like to say thanks to Scotty for this generous offer.

Hey Fishman. Could you please tell me where are all the launching ramps in the Big Sandy Area. Especially the free ones. I would like to come down this weekend and fish for shellcrackers. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I'm probably not the best one to ask about boat ramps. I haven't even been able to visit the new (or improved) ramps down on the refuge. Running this site hasn't allowed me the fishing time I hoped for. So, others might want to chime in here and give you better details than I can.

The ramp I've been using lately is the one in sulphur creek. It's a very nice ramp. Wide, steep, good traction, works at any water level. Only bad thing is the parking. Sometimes you've got to park down the road on busy days. I'll try and give directions. Take East Antioch road (by Lake Realtors and General Dollar). Go a couple of miles and turn left just past the Amvets (I think it's an Amvets). That road will kind of fork. Stay to the left and you will end up at the ramp.

The others I used to use are at Big Eagle campground and another gravel ramp past it. The Big Eagle ramp is located just past Mayer's grocery on the left. You should see the signs. Mayer's is near Buchanan Resort. The gravel ramp is located past Big Eagle. You'll also take the road towards Mayer's grocery. At the end of the road you'll take a right, then a left, then another left. I think it's on Dog Road. It's a primitive ramp, but a nice location.

You can also put in at Buchanan's Resort and Mansard Island Resort (for a fee).

I'm not a shellcracker fisherman, so don't know what the best area is for them. There are other ramps down south of these and they may be in a better location for shellcracker, but someone else would have much better info on their state at this point. I know the one at Britton Ford has really been improved, but that's about all I know.

Hope this helps a little.

If you are up for the drive--New Hope Landing out of Big Sandy is great. It has lots of parking and a nice wide ramp, 2 can launch at the same time if necessary. They are putting in some more improvements as well.

I came down sat. and put in at Mansard Island. Fished swamp creek but could not find any shellcrackers. Fishing was slow. Most people were drift fishing at the mouth of the bays for crappie. I caught a few small crappie and a few bream. Wind was out of the north and it was slow. Hey Pappacrappie, where did you say to look for shellcrackers in the back of swamp creek? Or anywhere else for that matter? I saw a silver boat and thought that it was you, but it turned out to be someone else. I spoke to one man at Mansard that was trolling longlines with crankbait in the channel and he had his limit.
