When you start fishing,Is it best to start up off the bottom a little?I read alot about suspending crappie on the flats, drops etc. When the crappie start moving closer to the shallower water, will they follow the bottom or will they suspend? Is the depth finder very accurate for figuring it out?

Most surely on the depth finder....Gotta learn to identify fish...

Most my fish are suspended somewhat...But I have caught them in shallows with their back fin showing...

Firedog, when working depths say 12-20ft try bottom first but reel up a crank or two off bottom. When suspended, the depth finder can get you close to the depth of where they're at but mostly slow down on those suspended fish cause they're a little more finniky.

Has anybody heard from Papa Crappie? He usually is hitting it hard by now and reporting lots. Just hope his health is good?
