Been reading about the stripers (rockfish) showing up more and more in McCadams' fishing report. I haven't caught one lately, but seems they've spawned and there might be more of them this year and in years ahead.

Wonder if they have anything to do with our white bass (stripes) limit being reduced this year? I know that they'll feast on crappie and stripes. Could this be bad news for crappie and stripe fishermen. Anybody got any comments on em?

Striper may spawn but that does not mean reproduction. after releasing eggs they must be in moving water for at least 48 hours to develop into fry. from what I have read this just doesn't happen in most lakes.

I guess I figured that reproduction has taken place due to the increase in catches of these rascals. Just wonder why now? Why haven't they been able to sustain a population before. Is there that much more current or what?

I personally haven't caught a bona fide striper in 5 years or more on Ky Lake. But, am hearing more and more people catching them and they're being seen hitting shad on the surface much more than in previous years.

Thanks for the info DanFish. Did not know about the moving water factor. I really don't know anything about these fish, as I've only striper fished one time at Norris Lake years ago.
